Jennifer Escalona tells it like it is

6 Apr 2009Deb, one of the bloggers over at FreelanceWritingJobs.com, is holding a contest. She’s giving way a signed copy of Susan Guenelius’ Kick-Ass Copywriting in 10 Easy Steps to the most creative freelance writer who blogs, tweets, sings, dances, builds a birdhouse, paints a cat (you get the idea) about what they can do to get out of their low paying gig rut.
Enter the Get Out of Your Gig Rut and Win a Kickass Book Contest here. You have until Wednesday, April 8th! I’m going to do it. I can’t tell you what I’m going to do yet, but let’s just say that cats seem to have extrasensory perception about these things.
Also, if you haven’t checked out FreelanceWritingJobs.com, this is me recommending it as a Google Reader-worthy site. Not only do they offer to give you handy freelance writing tools for doing something you should be doing anyway, they offer a list of daily freelance writing jobs.
I’ll leave you with a note on the word “Kickass.” A former colleague of mine actually won her job at the international competitive intelligence company where we worked together by having the transferrable skill “Kickass Sense of Humor” listed on her resume. Do you have any transferrable skills you’re forgetting to list?

Just so you know :
http://www.freelancewritingjobs.com/
is one of those strange, subgeneric websites at which that I’ve never wondered long enough to discover their purpose.
I think the real ’site toward which you wanted to point was this one :
http://www.freelancewritinggigs.com/
and yes, it seems a very good ’site and thanks for pointing it out.
(Will it send me an e-mail notification if you reply to this comment? You don’t have to do so, I just don’t want you to think I’m ignoring you if I don’t check this ’site before you’ve posted another journal entry, thus not seeing that you’d replied to my comment.)

Oh that’s right! The site is “gigs” but the title of the site is “Jobs,” How confusing. I don’t think my site sends you an email, but it should, shouldn’t it? I wish I were a WordPress wizard, I would know how to make that happen. As it stands, I need to investigate. It seems like not having email notification stands in the way of comment discussions, doesn’t it?

Only ’cause I’m absent-minded and can’t remind myself to check the blog for responses myself. For that reason, I don’t do livejournal and such; I would forget that I was having some heated conversation in a comments section and everyone would be like “Well – I guess that last retort just stumped ol’ B, hehe” but I would have forgotten about it, simply.
I guess I’ll have to set reminders in my phone if it’s important enough, haha. Oh my pitiful short-term memory, you make me the world’s entertainment.
