There are two things you can do. The first is a business continuation plan and it should cover other types of disasters like hurricanes, floods etc. It should discuss how your business will be handled if something bad happens. The second is a CRM program like ACT! that makes it easy to organize and view your clients, projects, and other info. I use Excel though, because I'm cheap.

As for arch nemeses stealing private information...well...gosh, I just don't know ;P

Hey - I made one of those lists for my hubby too! In addition to bills it also includes our insurance policy info. and contact numbers/names/e-mail.

I work for a Financial Planner so I see how troublesome Estates can be for beneficiaries. It takes at least a year to settle most. What they need more than anything right away is access to info. easily to know what they deserve and where to find it. Searching through secrect hiding spots is not something they will have the want/desire or ability to do. Too painful. Make the info. available in a secure place all together where they know they just go to that one place and everything is there for them.

My boss just suffered a massive medical emergency that brought him to the brink of death. Even the best prepared aren't perfect - it showed him - and me - some of the business related things that are still incomplete for contingency planning. Thankfully he recovered and we have the time to be better prepared. Not everyone is so lucky.

A morbid, but important topic. There are actually services like LegacyLocker that will release your passwords to your beneficiary upon death (they periodically send emails to check that you're alive and if you don't respond a certain number of times, they assume that you have died).
