A great source I like for business book summaries is Soundview Executive Book Summaries.

Now that I'm moving into ministry I would like to see the soundview model used for ministry books.

I'm not sure how I missed this post because this blog is definitely in my RSS feed. Better late than never I suppose. I am a newbie just starting to look for ways to branch out from random article writing. This list is a great starting point :-) It's nice that so many of you established freelancers are willing to help others succeed!

Tell me, P.S., how many people have you had ask you about freelancing, then suddenly drop off the face of the earth when everything you tell them to do starts to sound like work? I'm sure you've had just as many as I have. If I thought everybody would take my advice as if it were a rare and precious jewel, I would be oh so sweet and nurturing, but since they don't, I have an automated message. That said, folks are always, always free to ask me questions beyond what's mentioned in this FAQ, but as a businesswoman, it behooves me to save my time with a little device like this. (And too all new freelancers reading this - IF you work hard and become successful - sooner than you think you'll be writing an FAQ just like this, too!)

Ha! I love subversive blog writing. But yeah, that one about the sixty hour weeks and this is a business, totally true! I love what I do so those sixty hour weeks weren't (aren't?) so bad. But if a newbie think she's just going to spit out some writing and make a ton of money, I'd like to talk to her again in six months and see how you're doing.

Hey Jen,

Many many thanks for your opinion on these topics! Your reply relating to whether to have multiple blogs for different areas of interest makes a lot of sense, so I will definitely be making separate blogs.

I see your point about allowing Google to own the domain, however I was poking around the settings on Blogger and there is a way to export your Google Blog to a privately owned domain. Is this the same thing Wordpress allows you to do, thus making them equal in this regard? Or perhaps I missed something.

Anywho, I'm going to check out the ProBlogger article you linked and get back to work. As usual, you rock. Peace, love, and happy blogging!

Comment on The Paypal Service Fee: Minor Annoyance or Egregious Thievery? by Jenn Escalona

Oh that blows! See, I've had a very different experience with PayPal. Back before I was even a freelance writer, someone tried to hack my account from China. I never would have known something was going on if they hadn't called me and asked me if I was in China. (I wasn't, clearly.) Then the next week the hacking attack continued and some guy called me and said he'd taken over my email and I would have to pay to get it back. (There were a couple of flaws in his plan - it wasn't a very important email address for me and I had it set up via Gmail so that I could easily get the account back.) Still, when I put two and two together and connected that with the PayPal hacking attempt, I called PayPal and they were super professional. They went into some kind of crazy crisis lockdown mode and made sure that all my info was secure. They even sent me a letter in the mail to reactivate my account, just so the hackers couldn't get it. So, long story short, I really trust PayPal.

Now, your story sucks! That sounds more like the behavior of a bank (my bank, Bank of America, to be exact) than the behavior of the PayPal that acted so admirably for me. Did you leave them something on PlanetFeedback.com? Maybe that will get you some help, at least.
